What is yoga?

Many understand yoga today to be a series of movements and various asanas (poses).  Which is one part of yoga, however, yoga is layered like an onion.  You may begin peeling back one layer, learning about what it looks and feels like, but as you continue along the journey the other layers will begin to naturally unfold.  Yoga is deeply rooted in the overall wellness of the mind, body and spirit.  The word yoga itself derives from the word 'yuj,' which "refers to the act of yoking" (1).  In his book, Inside the Yoga Sutras, Reverend Jaganath Carrera stated that "'Yoga' is also used to refer to the essential union or Oneness of the individual with the Self."  If we are lucky, we are 100%, unapologetically ourselves all the time.  However, many of us fill the strain and burden of fitting in with society, therefore altering our true selves to be an individual that fits in the mould of other's and societies expectations.  Through the physical practice of yoga, beginning by peeling back that first layer, we can learn to shed the weight and burden of what we are expected to be so that we can stand tall and peaceful, at one with our true self.

Vinyasa Flow

A flowing, alignment based physical practice linking postures (asanas) with the breath. All levels welcome.

Yin Yoga

A passive, contemplative practice focused on the connective tissues rather than the muscles. All levels welcome.

Kid’s & Family Yoga

Bespoke yoga classes designed for children and families of various age groups and needs.

Envision Yoga

An intensive, unique yoga practice combining Kundalini and Hatha yoga, using Neuro-Linguistic Programming techniques. First instructed as a workshop, then weekly classes.

Trauma-informed Yoga

A class taught from a trauma-informed perspective. Every cue in class is an empowering invitation as the teacher reminds each student that they are always in control of their own practice. There are no physical adjustments in class, only verbal instruction is used. Students have the opportunity to create an environment in class that feels comfortable for them.

*Note: this class is designed for survivors of sexual trauma. However, all who suffer are welcome.

Private 1:1/small group/events

A bespoke yoga session for those who wish to have direct instruction/guidance on yoga asana, alignment, meditation and overall movement. Prior to initial instruction, there is a 30-45min consultation, discussing your goals/aims of private instruction. 1:1 and small groups are a 2 hour session, for events, please contact Marina.

 

Guided Audio Yoga

Sometimes watching someone do yoga, trying to do a pose exactly like them can distract from the journey of the practice. Every body is different. Inspired by my students, I began to create audio only yoga, to take away from the distraction of comparison.
